The Bird’s Nest Meatloaf Panini Named One of Canada’s Best Sandwiches

We’re very proud (and, if we’re being completely honest, pleasantly surprised) that the Bird’s Nest Cafe Meatloaf Panini has been named one of Canada’s best sandwiches by The Globe and Mail, following recommendations from its readers!

The Globe and Mail recently published its list of the best sandwiches in Canada, featuring a reader-recommended favourite from every province and territory. For Nova Scotia, they chose our humble Meatloaf Panini, describing it as: “A thick slice of meatloaf with a tomato-bacon jam and old cheddar. Once a hidden gem, it’s become a hot commodity in the city.” We’re pretty happy with that.

Our Meatloaf Panini has been a favourite with customers at Bird’s Nest Cafe for a long time, so it’s particularly nice to see it get some national attention. Made with a thick slice of meatloaf, tomato-bacon jam and old cheddar, it’s the sort of sandwich that sounds slightly strange until you try it — at which point the strange part tends to disappear pretty quickly.

As one Google reviewer put it, “The magician behind The Bird’s Nest Cafe somehow had the audacity to put meatloaf in a panini, and by God, it is a beautiful thing.”

If you’re looking for a great lunch in downtown Halifax, or simply something a little different from the usual café sandwich, the Meatloaf Panini is a pretty good place to start. It’s available every day at Bird’s Nest Cafe, and we highly recommend pairing it with a hot cup of coffee and one of our chocolate chip cookies.

We’re also delighted to see other Nova Scotia favourites represented, some of which we're now dying to try ourselves!
